Champagne Gremillet

20/03/2025
— Cuvée Forget me not —

A pioneer of organic viticulture in Champagne, Champagne Gremillet has been producing organic champagne under the Ecocert label since 2011. Initially crafted for other brands, it was only in 2019 that it was marketed under the house’s own name, Gremillet, after successfully winning a tender from the Swedish monopoly. Since then, Sweden has become the primary market for Gremillet’s organic volumes and now ranks as the house’s second-largest export market, just behind the UK.

To expand its organic offering to new markets, the family decided to convert 6 hectares of its 55-hectare estate in the Aube region to organic farming.

In support of this transition, the organic cuvee has been renamed “Forget Me Not” in 2024, a nod to the myosotis flower. This name is no coincidence, as the word “Gremillet” appears among the common names of this flower. A flower name matching the family name—what better way to represent this organic cuvee?

Tasting review

Color: radiant golden hue, bright, clear, and slightly tinted, with fine and intense bubbles.
Nose: complex and indulgent, featuring ripe fruit notes such as pear and mirabelle plum, followed by white flowers and delicate spices like vanilla.
Palate: intense and full-bodied, with a creamy mid-palate that envelops the taste buds in ripe fruit flavors, beautifully balanced by a refreshing minerality. The saline finish prolongs the pleasure.
Pairing: John Dory fillet with a mandarin foam.
Comment: a remarkable success for this certified organic cuvee, both elegant and fruit-forward.

Do you know the legend of the Myosotis?
According to legend, a young knight, weighed down by his armor, was swept away by the current as he attempted to pick a myosotis flower along the banks of the Danube River. Before disappearing, he gallantly threw the flower towards his lady, calling out his final words: “Forget me not!”.
