Association of Sommeliers from Alpes-Marseille-Provence

Stéphane Opiard succeeds to Gisèle Marguin

After 12 years of presidency the former UDSF secretary general lets the new team continue the actions in favour of the profession in a region where the youth are engaged.

L'association compte 57 membres actifs.

With emotion the one who succeeded Paul Léaunard, the founder of the association, thus took a stock of the last 12 years. “My presidency now comes to an end. This long path taught me a lot, I grew up within the associative sector, a male environment. The associative sector suits me in total self-sacrifice. I hope I managed to develop ASAMP, my goal was to federate and to integrate ASAMP more comprehensively within UDSF, our reference family, I think it is a success. At last I wish we remain close to the wine growers who we cannot exist without.”

She also paid tribute to those who work at her side within the board as well as to all the members of the association. “You are all different, all unique, all important to me. Together we feel well, with our enriching differences, we progress if we take the trouble to open to the others and listen to them. By listening to the others, one learns and develops oneself. Let’s be humble and respect one another.”

A teacher as new president

To succeed Gisèle Marguin, only one candidate applied, Stéphane Opiard, the former secretary general of the association. Teacher at the vocational high school Sévigné in Gap in Hautes-Alpes, he is backed by a team that combines experience and enthusiasm. Christophe Carreau (independent wine consultant) will be the vice-president and secretary general. Esther Laushway (wine tourism organizer) will be in charge of the communication and the organization of the activities. Pauline Rigaud (wine consultant at Domaine des Masques), the new treasurer, will be assisted by Elisabeth Cayol (retired from the National Education) who has been responsible for the task for several terms. At last Gisèle Marguin will represent ASAMP with the national bodies of UDSF.

After the presentation of various reports and the unanimous election of the new board, the tradition implemented by the outgoing president has been respected. The students in additional sommelier certificate at Lycée Bonneveine in Marseille all met their patron who will support them all along their year of training and even beyond if they wish. The class’ patron is Guillaume Tari, the president of the appellation Bandol and the owner of Domaine de La Bégude in Castellet where the meeting was organized.
