Domaine Chanson spans 45 hectares exclusively in Premier and Grand Crus within the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy. With 25 hectares in the Beaune appellation, it is considered one of the leading specialists in the finest Premier Crus of Beaune.
Les Marconnets is located on the upper slopes at the northern tip of the Beaune territory. This vineyard, with clay-limestone soil that is deeper at the lower slopes and resting on limestone bedrock at the upper part, imparts the wines with a robust structure and powerful tannins. It derives its name from the Germanic Marcomanni tribe, who are believed to have settled here in the 3rd century AD. A perennial spring emerges in its midst. Chanson owns approximately 4 hectares, accounting for 40% of the vineyard.
The Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Marconnets 2017 is a Pinot Noir made from clonal selection, planted in 1979, 1983, and 1988. The harvest took place under excellent conditions, with impeccable sanitary status. After a whole-cluster fermentation lasting two weeks, the red wine was aged in oak barrels in the Domaine’s 15th-century cellars for 14 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak barrels.
Color: garnet red with light brick-red reflections, clear and bright.
Nose: intense and complex, with delicate notes of blackberries, rose, and peony. Upon aeration, aromas of blond tobacco and spices emerge.
Palate: ample and concentrated, evolving with flavors of dark fruits. The tannic structure is well-defined, elegant, and spicy. The slightly chalky finish highlights the terroir.
Pairing: this delightful Premier Cru from Beaune pairs wonderfully with venison filet in a grand veneur sauce.
Comment: a wine with a strong identity, ready to drink. A remarkable success for Maison Chanson.
