Domaine Chanson

23/09/2025
— Clos des Fèves Beaune 1er Cru 2023 —

Established in Beaune since 1750, Domaine Chanson is one of the historical pillars of the Côte de Beaune. The estate manages 88 hectares of vineyards and has been certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since 2016.

Under the guidance of cellar master Lucy Auger, who has held the position since 2020, parcel-by-parcel vinification has become a defining element of the house style. Each climat is carefully monitored from harvest to bottling with minimal intervention. This philosophy gives rise to wines that are elegant, precise, and well-structured.

At the heart of Beaune’s Premier Crus (25 hectares), Clos des Fèves is a 4.1-hectare monopole listed as early as 1307. Ideally located mid-slope, its soils combine clay, limestone, and sand. Planted exclusively with Pinot Noir, the plot enjoys an eastern exposure, allowing for slow, even ripening—ideal for expressing pure fruit character.

The 2023 vintage was marked by alternating spring coolness, summer thunderstorms, and a return of intense heat in late August, conditions that led to homogeneous ripening of the grapes. Vinification was tailored to respect the identity of the site: cold pre-fermentation maceration, partial destemming, small-volume fermentation in stainless steel tanks, gentle punch-downs, and ageing on fine lees in oak barrels (25% new, the rest one to six years old). The wine is neither filtered nor fined before bottling, preserving the purest expression of its terroir.
