Champagne J.M. Tissier

17/12/2018
In a quest for perfection

Jacques Tissier is a perfectionist. He has an eye for the slightest detail. And despite his 40-year experience (he has been crisscrossing the vineyard since the age of 14), he keeps on questioning himself about every detail that would improve his Champagnes, the precision of the dosage, the origin of the liqueur, the precise maturity of the grapes ...

Paolo Basso entouré de Marie-Christine, Jacques Tissier et leurs enfants.

In mid-October 2018, Marie-Christine, Jacques and their children welcomed Best Sommelier of the World Paolo Basso and SommelierS International on the estate with a big smile. Harvest is finished. The crop is perfect. A nearly unreal perfection. As far as Jacques Tissier can remember, the grapes have never showed such a uniform beauty. And his memory goes far back. The estate exists since 1931 and the brand J.M. TISSIER since 1998. Jacques represents the 3rd generation who runs the family estate located at Chavot-Courcourt, in the south of the hills of Epernay. With his wife Marie-Christine and now the support of their two sons Gaëtan, 24, and Anthony, 22, Jacques crafts precise Champagnes, with enthusiasm and tenacity. Vintage after vintage he strives in seeking harmony, balance, finesse and fruitiness that characterize Champagne wines.

J.M. Tissier's Terroir range consists of four cuvees: Reflet de Terre, a blend of Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Noir, disgorged “à la volée” after 24 months in the cellar, is simple, charming and moreish all together. Eclat de Terroir, a blend of three varieties, mainly Chardonnay-based and comprising 35% of reserve wines aged in oak barrels, that offers a broad and well-structured palate worthy of the greatest. Eden de Rosélis, a blended rosé made of Chardonnay and Meunier as well as red Pinot Noir wine. And a Brut Nature in a white-coated bottle, signature of a terroir with a selection of grapes from the oldest stocks of Chardonnay and Meunier, from the 2012-2013 harvest with at least 4 years of ageing on laths. Paolo Basso particulary appreciates Eclat de terroir that he considers to be rich and powerful with a long and fleshy finish.

J.M. Tissier now proposes a new “Premium” range with three references: Génésis, a Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2014 partly vinified in oak barrels. Ancestrale Vintage 2012, a gastronomic Champagne, a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir and Meunier. And at last Délicatessence Vintage 2014, a bled rosé, elegant and refined, stemming from the 2014 vintage. These cuvees nurtured with love and passion will provide a magical touch to all the exceptional moments in your life!

To Jacques Tissier, all is in the grape. The vineyard is his garden, a regained paradise. Therefore the biblical and mythological references in the name of his cuvees. And after all, perfection is the God's matter ...

Paolo Basso's reviews

Génésis, Brut Blanc de Blancs 2014

Beautiful bright clear straw-tellwo colour. Intense nose with scents of yeast, green pepper, smoke, citrus and Williams pear. Firm and expressive nose with a dense and well-structured character. The finish is long, rich and savory. A beautiful distinguished cuvée that will perfectly match delicate dishes of fine fish and poultry-based cuisine.

Délicatessence, Brut Rosé de Saignée 2014

Dark pink with old gold tinges. Excellent nose with scents of leaves, marzipan, pastry, brioche, oven-baked pears and fine spices. Dense palate with a firm and solid character with a quite masculine style that reveals a quite strong spicy touch. Fairly voluminous and persistent finish with a lovely spicy touch. A cuvee that will confidently match tasty dishes like bouillabaisse and rockfish in spicy sauce.
