Ch. de l’Auche et Prestige des Sacres : deux marques, deux identités, un seul objectif : l’excellence

11/10
Vigneron
Winegrower Champagne As soon as he takes up his new post, Yves Auguste revolutionized the cooperative. He first modernized the vinification and storage tools, particularly installing a half-buried cellar in perfect harmony with the landscape. “We are proud of making champagne in a cooperative, Yves Auguste says. We now have great tools and it would be a pity not to exploit it ourselves. It is now time to offer our customers a great reception room that matches the quality of our champagnes.”
The work is now in progress and the new reception area will open its doors in early 2011. The whole team will be able to welcome the visitors in ideal conditions and in many foreign languages. “This space will keep a ‘cellar atmosphere’ and will receive customers from all over the world in the best way,” Yves Auguste anticipates. “Brighter, in accordance with the local architecture, the new tasting room will offer an unobstructed view on the vines and the very typical village of Janvry.”
A new Prestige des Sacres vintage, 100% Pinot Meunier, will celebrate this new reign. The wine is ready and will soon adorn itself with its luxurious packaging and above all with its famous crown… Until then, the two brands have been pleasing wine lovers for many years.

Two champagnes, a great complementarity

Jean-Christophe Lenfant, the structure’s oenologist and cellar master since 2002, enlightens us on the composition of these two champagnes. “Whereas the Champagne de l’Auche perfectly expresses the terroir of the Montagne de Reims in which the Pinot Meunier prevails (80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay), the Prestige des Sacres expresses the terroir of the whole Champagne Region (one third of each varietal).”
Created in 1975, the Champagne CH. de l’Auche brand is now sold locally in the retail outlets located in Janvry, in the heart of the House, Reims, Châlons-en-Champagne and Muizon. In a non-vintage Brut, “the predominance of Pinot Meunier makes it fruity and expressive” Jean-Christophe Lenfant explains. The Cuvée Brut Sélection, made from 85% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir, reveals a true maturity appreciated by connoisseurs of champagne with body –brought by the Pinot Noir. “The Cuvée Brut Sélection has a strong personality.”
As for the Champagne Prestige des Sacres, it reflects the image of the terroir of the Champagne region and its three thirds of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The vineyards, covering 45 villages and 120 hectares, offer a great diversity of varietals that Jean-Christophe Lenfant skilfully knows how to make use of. He selects carefully the best varietals that guarantee beautiful tertiary aromas that give complexity and subtlety to his champagnes. The Prestige des Sacres is a high quality champagne thanks to those choice scents. The fruitiness of the Pinot Meunier, the frame and volume of the Pinot Noir added to the lightness of the Chardonnay, simply make one of the greatest champagnes. “The Chardonnay brings the touch of freshness and fineness. The Prestige des Sacres gives this wonderful sensation of fullness in the mouth” Jean-Christophe Lenfant explains. “The lay amateurs not skilled in tasting appreciate its nice fruitiness.” The Prestige des Sacres cuvées have been awarded many times. The Brut Rosé got one star in the 2010 Hachette Guide, a bronze medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and a gold medal in the Gilbert&Gaillard guide 2011, together with the Brut. The Brut 2004 and the Privilège 2002 have been fully appreciated on the international scene by lots of guides and awarded in various contests (see prizes below).
A visit of the domain in Janvry might be one of the good resolutions for many champagne connoisseurs for the New Year. What a good idea to keep on celebrating!
