“Good fertile earth always come to meet those who want them”This very wise Romanian saying leads Mr. and Mrs. Anghel`s profile. Having the same passion, Mrs. Anghel, cardiologist, and her husband, engineer, took over in 2003 Segarcea Crown Domain to give it back its former grandeur and royal power.

In 1884, the first King of Romania, Carol 1st, became the new tenant manager of the 12 State owned agricultural domains, and Segarcea was the only one to have a wineyard.

This Domain, situated at 25 km in the south of Craiova, leans on the hill at 145 meters height, and rejoice with the biggest number of sun`s brightness. The earth is permeable, with a rich layer of black earth and limestone, having the most favourable characteristics.

Between 1906 and 1908, the cellar is built according to a French architectural project, which at that time was the only cave having the latest technologies in Romania. Cross-shapped made, on 4 levels, the wine making was already carried out by gravitation.

Since 2004, they have started the restauration of the cellar paying attention to all the historical and architectural details, from the blazon to the royal lilies chaplet that we can fiind today on the labels of the bottles.

In 2005, they began the reorganization of the vineyard with Romanian and international grape varieties for 280 ha all together, with an objective of 320 ha for 2008: 60% reds and 40% whites. The sustaining system anticipates the activities which will be made completely mechanized.

Always in search of perfectionism, but keeping in mind the concern of associating permanently modernity and tradition, great investments were realized in order to optimize the quality of wine makings. All the work is done with techniques and procedures which allow a perfect control of the macerations / fermentations with very beautiful extractions, soft tannins giving perfect balanced wines.

It is truly a past which looks to the future based on this perfect alliance between Mr Anghel`s passion for the ground of and all Mrs Anghel`s sensuality serving the wine.
