ASMA :
Sommeliers Association of Morocco

Morocco is the first country of the African continent asking for A.S.I. membership for its Sommeliers Association.

ASMA, the Sommeliers Association of Morocco, was launched on March 5th, 2012, by twenty professional sommeliers from Morocco gathered by their president, Michèle Aström Chantôme.
It is a very important event for Morocco where vineyards have existed for more than 2,500 years, which is a very welcoming country with a great tradition of hospitality. Top tourism has been developing for years and the Moroccan food is more and more appreciated. The Moroccan people are also discovering the French and International gastronomy…
ASMA intends to help the restaurateurs as a sommelier has a key role with the clients. That is why the first goal of this new association is education and training with a special committee conducted by Manuel Schott, Head-sommelier of La Mamounia.
ASMA is a non-profit association. No business! All its members are volunteers. Only passion is guiding them. A sponsoring policy will be run by Boris-Romain Bille, sommelier-restaurateur at La Bazenne, Casablanca, to help with the logistics.
As the wine producers will be their supporters, ASMA has already organized a special event at Vinitaly: a tasting run by our friends from ASPI, Giuseppe Vaccarini, Alberto Merico and Piero Sattanino, which gathered all the best wines of Morocco.
In order to meet its goals in the best way, ASMA is already asking for membership within the A.S.I. hoping that the 55 associations around the world will be supporting Morocco.
It will be also a premiere for A.S.I. to welcome the first ever African Association of sommeliers.
