Château de Lancyre, en Pic Saint-Loup

08/12/2016
“Madame”, an exceptional cuvee

It is a wine of a single terroir, one plot (Madame) at the foot of Château de Lancyre, and divided by the small road that leads to the Roman chapel of Aleyrac. The peculiar terroir of this plot provides the Shiraz with an optimum maturity, a beautiful concentration of the fruits.

Cuvée Madame 2013

AOC PIC SAINT-LOUP
Tasted by Bertrand Bijasson,
Master of Port 2012, président of sommeliers of Bordeaux-Aquitaine

Intense and deep colour, garnet-red.

The first nose is open, immediately promising. Scents of perfectly ripe red and black fruits are unveiled easily. The wild strawberry, the blackberry are the most intense aromas. In the second nose, after swirling, the aromas of fruits mingle with woody notes, a hint of spices. I can smell vanilla, liquorice, a light hint of cloves. Very interesting nose, complex and delicate.

On the palate the wine is marked by a powerful structure, with solid but not harsh tannins. The balance is respected thanks to some freshness provided by an acid presence that gives the wine its balance. I taste the same aromatic range, ripe red and black fruits, vanilla, roasted, toasted notes and the spicy touch.

Food and wine pairings:

Pigeon in a crust of walnuts, figs and ceps:
the texture of the pigeon, the thin and discreet crust and the tangy notes of the fig open the way to the wine. The tight tannins of the wine are softened by the juicy pigeon, the notes of red fruits reply to the aromas of figs. The supreme pairing!

An Argentinian parrilla:
a well-marbled beef meat with a side dish made of bacon, kidneys, onion, garlic, parsley and lemon. A pairing of a dish and a wine both with character.

Service: better decant to fully enjoy the wine.
T° : 18°C  / ageing : 15 years or more.
