Contest UDSF Vertus
Ten candidates in the semi-finals and four in the final competed for the title of Best Young Sommelier of France - Duval-Leroy Trophy on Monday 25 November in Vertus, in the Champagne region.
Facing a special jury including five Best Sommeliers of the World (Serge Dubs, Philippe Faure-Brac, Olivier Poussier, Gérard Basset and Paolo Basso), the finalists were Maxime Brunet(Restaurant William Frachot, Hostellerie du Chapeau Rouge, Dijon), Edmond Gasser (Restaurant Königshof, Munich), Mikael Grou (George V in Paris), and Nicolas Menez (Taillevent in Paris).
Test of general knowledge, a wine tasting and identification of seven liqueurs, serving of Champagne with a short workshop in English, food and wine pairing, and the President’s questions have helped to refine the selection and to crown Maxime Brunet.
He received title and trophy from Carol Duval-Leroy, CEO of the eponymous Champagne House, and Michel Hermet, president of the Union De la Sommellerie Française.
The UDSF and House Duval-Leroy have also confirmed their partnership for the next three editions of a contest that Philippe Faure-Brac and David Biraud had won in their time.
