UDSF board meeting

12/03/2018
from the Maitres Sommeliers to the contests, a big agenda

The day after the Percée du Vin Jaune event, the association of Sommeliers from Jura-Franche Comté welcomed the French Sommellerie for a board meeting presided over by Philippe Faure-Brac.

Les délégués de l’UDSF étaient réunis à Poligny dans un lycée professionnel hôtelier qui a longtemps formé de jeunes sommeliers.

The Hyacinthe-Friant school of Poligny, at the heart of Jura, opened doors to the representatives of the French Sommellerie Union for a board meeting. Welcomed by Philippe Munos, the president of the regional chapter, and Philippe Faure-Brac, national president, they could deal with all the subjects on the agenda.

The will to conform the regional statutes to the national ones is a major project, just like the evolution of the title of UDSF Maitre Sommelier. Indeed, as it has been said during the 2017 general meeting in Auvergne, Georges Lepré wishes the candidates could commit themselves more in the defense of their application. A project on which he works with Robert Desbureaux and Laurent Derhé. As a consequence there will be no new titles given in 2018. However the old and new Maitre Sommeliers will be celebrated in Bordeaux on February 9 and 10, 2019 during the event that will be organized for the 30th anniversary of the creation of the title.

Before then, Philippe Faure-Brac hopes to make an impression for the finals of the Contest of theBest Sommelier of France. In partnership with the National Education, he decided to invite 400 students in sommellerie in November in Paris. A real challenge that everyone inside UDSF imagines to be extremely positive for the image in the future.

Ali Hedayat, president of the Sommeliers from Nice-Côte d’Azur-Provence, also evoked the Sommellerie Day scheduled in his region on next June 25 and 26 at Château de Crémat and the Provence Wine House. As for the Association of Paris, they will organize their gala dinner in June 3rd.

A heavy timetable

During the meeting, the important dates have also been annouced for the sommeliers who like to question themselves by participating in contests. The finals of the contest “One of the Best Craftsmen of France” will take place on September 30th and October 1st 2018–the place has not been chosen yet.

The date of the selection for the contest of the Best Sommelier of France has also been unveiled. It will take place in Paris on next May 14th. As for the finals, they are scheduled in Paris from November 11 to 13 during the trade fair Equip’Hotel.

Much later, but just as important, the timetable of the contest of Best Young Sommelier of France – Trophée Duval-Leroy has been annouced. On January 14th, 2019 the selections will be done in different sites in France, and the finals will take place on April 7-8, 2019 in Vertus in the famous Champagne house.

Also to be noted that the Sud De France challenge, a national competition about Languedoc-Roussillon wines, is organized on next April 2018 in Carcassonne. The technical organization is the mission of the sommeliers from Languedoc-Roussillon-Southern Rhone Valley.

At last, two new presidents have been welcomed. Dominique Milardi for Monaco and Jean-Michel Fernandez for Normandy. A regional chapter that comes to life again after a few years of standby.
