Avenue de Champagne – Epernay

préface de Pierre Arditi

For several years, Michel Jolyot has been photographing the Avenue de Champagne, one of the three model sites for the candidacy of the hillsides, houses and cooperative cellars of Champagne on the list of UNESCO world heritage.
The first part is dedicated to history, with old documents found in the city archives and private collections. We then delightfully get absorbed in the current heritage with not less than 145 pictures of the architecture, gardens, cellars and moments of festivity and effervescence like Les Habits de Lumière.
Texts, anecdotes and comments are translated in English.

préface de Jean-Luc Barbier,

Directeur Général du Comité Interprofessionnel
du Vin de Champagne

An astonishing journey in the inside of Champagne in 85 cellars of great houses, cooperatives and some winegrowers: stairs, galleries, chalk cellars, small cellars, bottles on laths and on racks, wine libraries, discovery of surprising graffiti of the 14th century, prints, bas-relief, paintings, old plaques, machines from the 19th century… 312 pictures to unveil the hidden sides of the cellars.
