Domain Chanzy

historic figure of Bouzeron

With an importance in the Côte Chalonnaise area acquired over three centuries of existence, the domain Chanzy now is one of the mainstays of Bouzeron.

In spite of a personality that commands respect, in particular thanks to the magnificent tasting cellar where an impressive and rare press with ropes stands, it is in 2012 that the house finds its letters of nobility. Indeed, Olma Invest, then more used to the luxury universe, decides to acquire the domain to give it back its magnificence. The latter thus opt for a highly qualitative approach which will pay off.
In the continuity of Olma, Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume takes over the reins in September 2013. Descended from a long lineage of winegrowers, the latter obtained in 2012 the trophy of the young talent of the Côte de Beaune. In May 2014, the vines and the soils are also revitalized with the arrival of a new vineyard manager: Pascal Jessiaume, Jean-Baptiste’s uncle. Practising integrated farming, both men intend to turn toward biodynamics.

Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume considers each cuvée as excellent. This is evidenced by his flagship cuvée Monopole Clos de la Fortune, many times rewarded. It stems from the variety Aligoté, whose AOC (Protected Designation of Origin) is authorized only at Bouzeron, and whose vineyards face East, on clay and limestone, slightly marly soils. As Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume declares, “the idea is to find the good compromise between the wood, the right expression of this great soil, the fatness and the freshness.” To reach his goals, Jean-Baptiste innovates and proposes since this year the élevage in wooden tuns by 30% “to gain complexity”.
This cuvée, full of finesse and nuances, displays an lovely pale yellow colour with green tinges. The nose has scents of buttercup with an interesting mineral expression and with nice fresh fruits. Vivid and balanced on the palate, the wine reveals a certain roundness, typical of its grape variety. Magnificent aromas which will perfectly match with a platter of seafood, fresh asparagus or white meat in sauce.
Just like this cuvée, all the wines of the house Chanzy are crafted and handled according to the lunar calendar and are verified to guarantee their excellence. Therefore every oak barrel and every bottling differ according to appellations and are chosen in order to give the wine a bigger complexity. Furthermore, all the juices are vinified within the House Chanzy, now equipped with a new fermentation cellar and completely reorganized cellars.
Today, Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume's priority is to develop a top of the range trade which will cover the most fabulous appellations of all Burgundy, and to present a complete range of the soils.
