Spirit Claix
Owner of 92 hectares of vineyards in the Fins Bois area, the house Leyrat developed a range of “Single Estate” cognacs of this cru. Benefitting from an outcrop of limestone very close to the surface, these vineyards produce powerful and fruity brandies symbolic of the Fins Bois, but also very sophisticated and elegant. That is the specificity of the terroir that the house wants to preserve and express through the selections realized by Christian Guerin, Master Blender and recognized Cellar Master of Francis Abécassis Domains.
The range of Cognac Leyrat, reference of the controlled appellation Cognac Fins Bois, presents for this year end a very elegant blend: “Brut de Fût 59%”. Stemming from a meticulous selection within the cellars of the domain Chez Maillard in Claix, this limited edition is the bottling without filtration nor reduction of a unique barrel of 350 litres. Found in the wettest cellar of Leyrat, this FP 188 barrel of French oak with coarse grain, with medium-plus toasting enabled to bottle 414 bottles with the real proof of 59%. Christian Guérin followed the élevage of this batch during several years and praises the two main characteristics of this Cognac: “Its aromatic powerfulness, mingled with an astonishing roundness on the palate, offers a surprising elegance in the aftertaste.”
Leyrat 59% displays aromas of candied cherries, cloves and light wood. This cognac presents a beautiful harmony between the liveliness of the alcohol and the complexity of the aromas, worthy of a successful ageing. A light deposit and a slightly cloudy aspect can form, signs of the absence of filtration and the authenticity of this from-the-barrel cognac.
