Château Saint-Sernin

Wine growers since 1619...

Down in the history of Cahors wine, the Fournié-Cavalié family grows wine since 1619. From generation to generation, the various heirs of the domain transmitted their know-how and gave Château Saint-Sernin its letters of respectability. Restructured in the 60-70s and well-rooted in its original terroirs, the Malbec of Château Saint-Sernin expresses all the sharpness of this symbolic variety today.

With the development of the domain, a new vinification cellar is built in 1992. The latter is equipped with thermo regulated stainless steel tanks allowing a perfect control of the temperatures during the fermentations. An essential condition for the crafting of various vintages positioned on three styles of wines: round and structured, powerful and moreish, and finally intense and complex.

In 2005, a new direction is taken. Anne and Heifara Cavalié-Swartvagher officially take over the reins from Marie and Dominique Rousset-Cavalié. It is also the year of the diversification with the plantation of new varieties to produce IGP Côtes du Lot wines red Ségalin, rosé Malbec, dry white Chardonnay and white Petit Manseng of a remarkable quality. Today, the vineyard of Château Saint-Sernin extends over fifty-one hectares of vineyards.

Producing a great wine requires a lot of time, rigor and know-how. It is an art! It holds of the domain of the art! This is how is considered every bottle aged in their cellars. It is also why Anne and Heifara wished to ally wine to arts. From this idea, Barriq’Art is born, an atypical exhibition which takes place every year in their cellars. “A gateway for our barrels which, having given the best of themselves, are going to find a second life.” Painted, sculpted, stuck, forged … transformed according to the whims of every artist, each of them will become, like their cuvees, unique! Conscious and worried about ecological stakes, the Cavalié-Swartvagher family always made every effort to consider its environment. “An essential reflection which directed our cultural practices to a healthy, integrated farming, respectful of the world that surrounds us”. But it is also the meeting of two cultures, the one metropolitan and the other Polynesian (Heifara was born in Tahiti). Out of this marriage, an alchemy was born in the crafting of the wines, its presentation and the sense of reception.

Quoted in reference guides (Château Saint-Sernin 2009, nr. 8 in the Best Buys Wine Enthusiast Top 100), awarded in the prestigious competitions, tasted by the greatest sommeliers of the world, the cuvees of Château Saint-Sernin are exported all over the world. Their ancestral savoir-fraire combined with their knowledge of the international markets make of Château Saint-Sernin your ideal partner.
