Château Marojallia

Top Model En Primeur

Wednesday, April 2nd in the morning, at Château Marojallia in Margaux, we are having a coffee with Adriana Karembeu and Philippe Porcheron, the owner, before the 2013 En Primeurs tastings whirl …

An improbable encounter in a famous Parisian bistro, a sensation in the mouth revealed by a very great wine of Bordeaux, Adriana Karembeu was into rapture about a “di’wine” Pétrus. Hearing her, Philippe Porcheron, from the Médoc and sitting next to her, proposed to taste his own wine: Marojallia. “I had never drunk wine of my life. I did not like it. But with my partner, I wanted to taste a red wine … I am greedy and I have a very good nose, one of the keys of the success of my perfume. I do not know why I have never entered the world of wine. Yet these moments of pleasure and conviviality, often absent in my professional life, are very rare. By drinking Marojallia, I was seduced by the magic, the secret of a great wine. There are only patient perfectionists who can make such!”, exclaims Adriana with a very light accent.

The muse, the model, the actor, the ambassadress of the French Red Cross, with a serious background in medicine, wanted to go further in the understanding of the wine and naturally became the ambassadress of Chateau Marojallia: “Like Picasso, I have my red period! As I am Virgo, I have to understand things from the basis”. Appointment was thus taken for the 2013 harvests with Chateau Marojallia. In the vineyard, Sébastien Valette, cellar master, explained the details of the grape harvest … perfect berries like balls of caviar entered the vats. Then her encounter with Michel Rolland, famous consultant oenologist, in the beginnings of the vinifications of the 2013, convinced her to refine her vision of the crafting of a grand wine, to forget the clichés to enter the modernity and the sincerity of the expression of the grand terroirs.

Philippe Porcheron and Michel Rolland were highly pleased by Adriana’s wonder and ardour. Why not make her discover all the usual cycle of a great Bordeaux wine? She took part in the harvest, she has been explained the wine making by Michel, she had to push the doors of the En Primeurs period, a complex system putting the vineyard under the spotlights, in the same spirit that Cannes’ Film Festival, where this time the stars are the great names of the wines of Bordeaux. “To me, Marojallia would be Barbara Streisand with her soft, deep, eternal voice. If we evoke fashion … a wine just like Hermes, a brand installed in the universe of luxury, not a trend”, she comments.

At Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, First Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, hosting the event La Clé des Châteaux, Adriana could discover 150 wines, among them Château Marojallia, followed by Michel and Dany Rolland and their colleagues. Spontaneity and charm in this wine business world gave a touch of timelessnes, the En Primeurs tastings remaining a moment of assessment of the future of the wines.

After a day spent to discover the 2013 En Primeurs, a great dinner was organized at Château Marojallia, a pearl in Margaux, surrounded with the top-classed chateaus of the appellation, with some 100 specially selected people beside Adriana and Philippe Porcheron. “One day, undoubtedly, but later, I would like to have a vineyard, to be close to the soil, understand and live this passion. I shall be from morning till night in the vineyard!”, Adriana enthuses.
