Charles Heston joins in the dance

The cooperative Les Six Coteaux has just launched its brand: Charles Heston, already awarded!

The cooperative Les Six Coteaux has just celebrated its 60th anniversary. An important day as it coincides with the fulfilment of ambitious projects and the launching of a brand that has already received several awards as well as the recognition of guides in 2011. “We wanted to give it a name that would suggest an idea of celebration, dance and the 20s.” Philippe Noizet, President of the cooperative since 27 years, says.

Between pun and wink, the name Charles Heston has been chosen by Mrs Noizet and the 137 members of Les Six Coteaux who cultivate a surface area of 152 hectares in the North of Reims, in the lovely surrounding of the Saint-Thierry hills vineyard. The place is mainly planted with Pinot Meunier (55%) which gives a lot of freshness and fruit to the wines made by the cooperative settled in Pouillon since 1951. Equipped with a totally renewed production tool, including a 33,000 litre vatroom, the latter serenely enters a new stage of its history with the implementation—out of Pouillon, in Villers-Franqueux—
of a place for storage, disgorgement and packaging, installed on a surface area of 3 hectares. The place has not been chosen by chance. It can be seen from the close main road and is located a few kilometres from a highway interchange that especially channels thousands of British tourists. This space that should be finished in 2012 will also be the showcase of Champagne Charles Heston that must contribute to the development of the cooperative. “The young members strongly wish to be part of the success of this project”, Philippe Noizet underlines.

An image to build up
The brand points up the quality and the diversity of the supply of the cooperative. It offers a range of numerous blends and makes a wine that intends to spread throughout all networks of which the catering industry. “Charles Heston has already won 15 medals in France and abroad. Above all we have the ambition of quality.” Philippe Noizet comments. He adds: “We know that establishing an image takes time. But we count on the buildings of Villers-Franqueux, the reception of visitors 7 days a week, and the dynamism of the sales team to succeed.”
Designed in a red and black background, the range Charles Heston is composed of 7 cuvées, a Ratafia, and a Coteau Champenois. “L’Ambassadrice”, a blend of three Champagne varietals has been awarded a Gold medal at the Vinalies Internationales and “L’Agat” distinguishes itself by an elegant packaging. This Blanc de Noirs is powerful and develops notes of candied fruits and stone fruits. Charles Heston gives particular care to the Champagne Ratafia by marketing three peculiar versions: a Ratafia made with Meunier, one with Pinot Noir and one with Chardonnay. “We really believe in the Ratafia as it makes possible very nice pairings with certain dishes. Especially with cheeses or larded warm prunes”, Philippe Noizet explains. It can also be harmoniously used for the preparation of scallops or filet mignon of pork.

For the president, the development of the cooperative Les Six Coteaux is possible thanks to this passion for wine. “My grandfather has been the first carter of the House Veuve Clicquot and my father was in charge of the wines for Goulet Turpin, a very big grocery of the region” he says proudly. He intends to remain loyal to this spirit. With the unfailing support of the young generations.
