Champagne Ployez-Jacquemart : 80 years of passion

11/10
Winegrower

1930. The Maison Ployez-Jacquemart was established in Ludes, a premier-cru village nestled in Montagne de Reims, by Marcel Ployez (an architect) and Yvonne Jacquemart (his wife), two bold characters with very fine tastes and a passion for wine. Together, they built their dream – their idée du champagne.
Over the past 80 years, this family has cemented this Maison’s founding values springing from ancestral, time-honoured savoir-faire, and France’s distinctive brand of elegance and sophistication. From 1950 to 1990, Gérard and his wife Claude have kept Maison Ployez-Jacquemart’s “artisanal” flame and soul alive. Since 1988, Laurence Ployez, the founder’s granddaughter took over. She is now Cellar Master of the Maison, where she runs rigorously the winemaking and marketing of its champagnes, while providing his own sensibility.
2010. Maison Ployez-Jacquemart is about to turn 80 but it’s as sprightly as ever. The Cuvée Passion Extra Brut, which it created especially for this occasion, is the shiniest example of that: it is a bridge between the generations that have taken over, and consolidates this Maison’s already solid reputation in its territory: wines of excellence that spring from pure respect for the fruit that makes them.

Extra Brut Passion Champagne

55% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier and 40% Chardonnay, half of which consists of wines of the grape harvest 2004 and the other half comes from wines aged in oak barrels without malo-lactic fermentation (25%) and reserve wines prior to 2004 (25%), this Champagne stacked nose-to-punt for four years. Floral, vibrant, epicurean and slightly toastedn it is rich and has a long finish. Its aromatic finesse is eminently tasteful and its final touch handsome.

Laurence Ployez,
a quiet guardian
of unrivalled savoir-faire

“I love fruity wines, with clear and clean aromas, and a natural balance between the mineral wealth and acidity, to keep them vibrant. But I prefer discretion. For me, wine is a personal experience. It has to be subjectively pleasing before descriptively appealing...”
