Under the sign of the Salamander
Quality, expertise, respect, consistency, modernity – these evocative words sum up the Champagne House Jacques Chaput, established in Arrentières on the right bank of the Aube River. There was at least one vintner in each of the last eight generations ofthe family Chaput. The estate has set itself apart from the others by appropriating the motto accompanying the Royal Salamander so dear to King François 1st: “Nutrisco et extingo” – “I nourish the good fire and extinguish the bad one”.
The implementation of this motto combined with the know-how and high standards of people who are keen on the land, allowed the Domain to be awarded many honours over the years, including a gold medal for the Brut l’Authentic at the highly renowned Concours des Effervescents du Monde, in 2011.The modernity is embodied by Jacky Chaput, who returned to the estate in 2007.
Man of strong character, he has managed to breathe new life into the brand in France and abroad by winning over new clients in Europe, United States, and soon Japan. With his artist’s soul, he has opened new doors for his wines, firstly by producing a unique cuvee, the “Authentic”, capable of charming both purists and the uninitiated, and then, in the same family of single grape variety Champagnes, a Blanc de Blancs and a Blanc de Noirs, with very original packaging. These three cuvees make up the Collection Salamandre. Not to mention the wide and varied range stemming from the specific soil of the Barsuraubois - a unique terroir that gives the Champagne wines an unrivalled fruitiness and freshness.
