Marie and Benoît, a dynamic duo!

Champagne André Jacquart is now settled in Vertus after having been located in Mesnil-sur-Oger for a long time. Created in 1958 by André Jacquart, the estate is now actively managed by Marie Doyard and her brother Benoît, André's grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Maurice Doyard, founder of the CIVC [Comité Interprofessionnel de Champagne]. They represent the fourth generation of a family where the notion of transmission of heritage has always been very strong.
Benoît started a career in the bank field after advanced business and finance studies in Paris. Marie, after having studied international trade, chose to work in special event management, when the issue of taking over the estate came up. “We did not suffer any pressure from our family to come back to the domain. We took the time to think about it—one year. It was an important decision, a long-term investment on a professional, financial and personal level, which binds us, my brother and me, nearly for ever!” Marie underlines.

Both are deeply convinced that with the quality of the working tool, this vineyard in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in 100% Chardonnay in Vertus and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, lands acquired thanks to the former generations' hard work, they can access a very particular style of Champagne and thus leave their mark. They then set their conditions: to them it seems very important to ‘re-personalize’ the style of the House André Jacquart.
“We are lucky to have parents and grandparents who accepted all these ‘upheavals’, they showed great open-mindedness” the tandem, who takes over the reins of the House once for all in 2004, recognizes.
A new era begins for Champagne André Jacquart. Big works are undertaken. Two significant trends in the evolution of the House are introduced: a return to vinification in barrels as well as the absence of malolactic fermentation.
The whole range benefits from a long ageing time in the cellar after tirage (4 years minimum for non-vintage cuvees and from 5 to 8 years for vintage cuvees), and low dosages. Emphasis is set on the vineyard; the search for the finest expression of the great terroirs of the Côte des Blancs is permanent. On the marketing side, modernization goes through new shapes for the bottles, a new visual identity and a new packaging.

Production is today of about 100,000 bottles per year. Benoît manages the vine and the wine. Marie takes in charge the commercial and marketing part, reception of the public on the estate, customer contacts and export follow up. This good balance is based on a shared conviction: “The key to success in family businesses is that each one has his own field of expertise and can express it through his work.”
