THE BEST SOMMELIERS OF THE WORLD CONQUERED BY MillÉsimes Alsace

Seven of them answered the invitation of the organizers of the trade show that took on an international dimension for this second edition in Colmar.

2 – Shinya Tasaki and Robert Dietrich signed the partnership that associates the image of A.S.I. with the Alsace wines’.

Over 90 exhibitors representing nearly all the greatest Alsatian wine growers, a thousand professional visitors from 18 countries and Best Sommeliers of the World who gathered together for an exceptional masterclass, the trade show Millésimes Alsace established itself as one of the greatest wine events in France as from its second edition. Led by Colmar Expos and the Interprofessional Committee of Alsace Wines (CIVA), this event offered an image of excellence confirmed by the 7 out of the 14 Best Sommeliers of the World who came. In front of a packed audience, they unveiled in turn their favourite wine born from a reminding or an encounter related to this vineyard, or a food and wine pairing that made an Alsace wine unforgettable to their palate.

The favourites,

Shinya Tasaki has presented the 2012 Gewurztraminer of Cave Dietrich & fils, Olivier Poussier the Pinot Noir Clos de la Faille of Domaine Albert Mann, Markus Del Monego the Crémant Brut Cuvée 60 of the winery Bestheim, Serge Dubs the Pinot Auxerrois Vieilles Vignes H 2010 of Domaine Josmeyer, Enrico Bernardo the 2013 Riesling Cuvée Catherine of Domaine Weinbach, Paolo Basso the 2012 Riesling Clos Saint Urbain of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and at last Philippe Faure-Brac the 2000 Riesling Kappelweg de Rorschwihr Late Harvest of the house Rolly-Gassmann. In a different register, two young Alsatian sommeliers, Caroline Furstoss and Romain Iltis, succeeded them to evoke the exceptional Alsatian vintages and thus browse from a 1996 Pinot Gris Alsace Grand Cru of Domaine Albert Boxler and a 1945 Riesling Kitterlé of Domaine Schlumberger.

A renewed partnership,
Shinya Tasaki’s presence also enabled to sign a partnership convention between Association de la Sommellerie Internationale and CIVA. Robert Dietrich, president of CIVA, and Shinya Tasaki, president of A.S.I., initialed this agreement for a three-year term. “For us it is a very good partnership and it confirms the tight links that bind us. Without this, do you think as many Best Sommeliers of the World would have accepted to come and participate in such a day while enjoying this unique showcase allowing to discover the newly marketed vintages of the Alsatian vineyard…” The day after this trade show that will have a third edition in 2016, the wine growers of seven Grand Crus joined forces to welcome, in the middle of the vineyard, sommeliers and journalists from the world over for a convivial presentation of their terroir.
