COMPETITION OF the BEST SOMMELIER OF FRANCE

TEN CANDIDATES DREAM ABOUT A TITLE IN BEAUNE

In the end of October, Burgundy will welcome the semi-final and final of the Competition of the Best Sommelier of France. Some have already had a taste of a first national victory, the others are going to discover the tension which surrounds such a test. The succession of the Alsatian Roman Iltis is opened !

Jonathan Bauer-Monneret, Jean-Baptiste Klein and Maxime Brunet

The countdown has started! Next October 26th, the ten sommeliers selected after the tests organized in Paris on last March, will meet in Beaune. They will be the guests of the interprofessional committee of Burgundy wines (BIVB), partner of the Union of the French Sommellerie for the organization of this competition but also the general assembly that will follow. The goal: do their best in the first series of tests scheduled on Sunday afternoon at the Centre of Training and agricultural promotion of Beaune before meeting in the finals of the day after. An appoitment for the four best on the scene at La Lanterne Magique,, the new theatre of the city.

If Florent Martin was in final in Marseille two years ago, three of the other participants already have the peculiarity to have won a national title. Jonathan Bauer-Monneret, Jean-Baptiste Klein and Maxime Brunet indeed became famous at the Competition of the best young sommelier of France - Trophée Duval-Leroy in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

We can also note that two of the unfortunate finalists of the competitions organized in Perpignan (2008), Fontevraud (2010) and at last Marseille (2012) will not be there. Indeed, Pascaline Lepeltier (Rouge Tomate, in New York) and Antoine Petrus (Lasserre, in Paris) have not been able to make themselves available for the selection. Absent who open the doors to the assertion of new talents. Another special feature, only one of the ten selected applicants is the owner of his establishment: Philippe Troussard who pratices his art every day in Jura.
Further, it is a complete mystery. A last visit organized at the beginning of July enabled Fabrice Sommier and the other members of the technical committee to discover the various places at their disposal. A decor about which we know that it can influence the spirit and the form of the worshops, especially in final.
